Wohnungsgeberbestätigung

The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung, often abbreviated as WGB, is a document required in Germany for official registration of a new address. It is essentially a confirmation of residence issued by the landlord or property owner, officially designated as the "Wohnungsgeber" (housing provider). This document serves as proof that an individual has indeed moved into a specific dwelling and is not simply registering a fictitious address.

When an individual moves within Germany or immigrates, they are legally obligated to register their new address with the local authorities, typically the Bürgeramt or Einwohnermeldeamt. The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is a mandatory part of this registration process. The housing provider must provide this confirmation within two weeks of the tenant moving in.

The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung typically includes essential details such as the name and address of the housing provider, the name of the tenant(s) moving in, the address of the property, and the date of occupancy. It must be signed by the housing provider. Without this confirmation, the registration of a new address is generally not possible, and failure to register can lead to fines. For individuals moving into their own property, this document is not required as they are their own housing provider.
