Wittdün

Wittdün is a municipality on the North Frisian island of Amrum, in the district of Nordfriesland, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is situated on the island’s western coast and functions as Amrum’s principal port and tourism hub. The town lies along the North Sea and is close to long sandy beaches and dune landscapes that characterize Amrum.

Historically a fishing and shipping settlement, Wittdün developed into the main gateway to Amrum for visitors arriving from the mainland. The harbour and ferry terminal connect Wittdün with the mainland town of Dagebüll, making it the entry point for most travelers to the island. The community forms the western terminus of the island’s road network, while Nebel stands inland as the other major settlement on Amrum.

Economy on Wittdün is dominated by tourism, with hotels, guest houses, restaurants, and recreational services catering to holidaymakers. The town’s beaches, promenade, and access to the surrounding coastal landscapes attract visitors, particularly in the summer months.

Transportation to and within Amrum is centered on the ferry connection between Wittdün and Dagebüll, complemented by local roads that link Wittdün with Nebel and other parts of the island. The ferry service remains the primary link between Amrum and the German mainland, supporting both passenger and vehicular traffic during peak seasons.
