The Windows key, also known as the Super key on some operating systems, is a modifier key found on most keyboards manufactured for Windows-based personal computers. It typically features the Windows logo. Pressing the Windows key by itself opens the Start menu, a central hub for accessing applications, settings, and files.

When combined with other keys, the Windows key triggers a variety of shortcuts. For example, Windows key + D minimizes all open windows, showing the desktop. Windows key + E opens File Explorer. Windows key + L locks the computer. Windows key + Tab opens Task View, which displays all running applications. Windows key + Print Screen saves a screenshot of the entire screen to the Pictures folder.

The Windows key's functionality can be customized to some extent through third-party software, but its primary role remains consistent: to provide quick access to system functions and accelerate common user tasks. Its presence has become a standard feature on modern keyboards, reflecting its importance in the Windows operating system's user interface. The key's design has evolved over time with different Windows versions, but its core purpose has remained largely unchanged.
