Williamsburg

Williamsburg is a place name used for several locations in the United States. The most prominent are Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a neighborhood of New York City, and Williamsburg, Virginia, a historic town with a long colonial heritage. Other smaller communities also bear the name, including towns in Kentucky and Massachusetts.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn is located on the East River waterfront and is bounded by Greenpoint, Bushwick, and Bed-Stuy. It developed as an industrial and immigrant neighborhood in the 19th and early 20th centuries and later underwent significant redevelopment that established it as a center for arts, music, dining, and nightlife. The Colonial Williamsburg historic district, a large living-history museum, preserves and interprets 18th-century life, government, and architecture. The town is part of James City County and lies within the Hampton Roads region near Williamsburg’s historic attractions.
