Wildspitze

Wildspitze is a mountain in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol, Austria. With a height of 3,768 meters (12,362 feet) above the Adriatic Sea, it is the second highest peak in the Ötztal Alps and the third highest in Austria. Its summit is a prominent ice-covered peak that can be seen from a distance.

The mountain has two distinct summits, the southern summit being the higher one and the northern summit, called "Vorderer Wildspitze" or "Small Wildspitze," which is 3,707 meters high. The Wildspitze is a popular destination for mountaineers and hikers, particularly during the summer months. The ascent typically involves glacier crossings and rock scrambling, requiring appropriate mountaineering equipment and experience.

Several routes lead to the summit, with the most common starting from the Breslauer Hütte or the Vernagthütte, both mountain huts that serve as base camps for climbers. These routes often traverse the Mitterkarjoch and the Tassachferner glacier. The summit itself is a glacial dome with a small rocky outcrop.

The surrounding area is part of the Stubai-Tirol Nature Park and is characterized by its rugged alpine landscape, glaciers, and high peaks. The views from the Wildspitze are extensive, offering panoramic vistas of the Ötztal Alps and surrounding mountain ranges. Due to its glaciated nature, ascents are often subject to weather conditions and the stability of the snow and ice.
