Wietzen

Wietzen is a village and a former municipality in the district of Stade, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 15 kilometers east of the city of Stade. The village is known for its historical significance and its picturesque landscape, which includes the Wietzener Moor, a protected wetland area.

The name Wietzen is believed to have originated from the Old Saxon word "wīz," meaning "wet" or "moor," reflecting the village's location in a marshy area. The village's history dates back to the Middle Ages, with the first written mention of Wietzen occurring in a document from 1230. Over the centuries, Wietzen has been part of various administrative units, including the Principality of Lüneburg and the Kingdom of Hanover.
