Wielokomórkowy, derived from Polish, translates to "multicellular" in English. This term describes organisms composed of more than one cell, where these cells often cooperate and specialize to perform different functions. In contrast to unicellular organisms, which consist of a single cell, multicellular life allows for greater complexity, size, and division of labor.

The development of multicellularity represents a significant evolutionary step, enabling organisms to exploit diverse environments and develop intricate structures. Examples of multicellular organisms span a vast range of life forms, including all animals, plants, and fungi, as well as many types of algae.
