Whittingham

Whittingham is a village and civil parish in Lancashire, England. It is situated on the River Bowland, approximately four miles north-east of Preston. The village has a population of around 1,500 people.

Historically, Whittingham was a rural agricultural community. The parish church, St. Michael's, dates back to the 12th century and is a Grade II listed building. The village also features a number of older farmhouses and cottages.

In the 20th century, Whittingham became known for the Whittingham Hospital, a large psychiatric institution that operated from the late 19th century until its closure in 1995. The site of the former hospital has since undergone redevelopment.

The village retains a community feel with local amenities including a primary school, a post office, and a public house. It serves as a residential base for many who work in the surrounding areas and in Preston. The surrounding countryside offers opportunities for walking and outdoor activities. Whittingham lies within the Ribble Valley parliamentary constituency.
