Wetheral

Wetheral is a village and civil parish in the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England. It lies to the east of Carlisle and sits on the eastern bank of the River Caldew, within the rural countryside of northern Cumbria.

The village is served by Wetheral railway station on the Tyne Valley Line, which runs between Newcastle and Carlisle. This provides rail access for residents and visitors. The area is also connected by major roads that link to surrounding towns and communities.

A prominent local landmark is Wetheral Priory, the site of a medieval Augustinian priory founded in the 12th century. Although the priory buildings fell into ruin after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, parts of the complex, including the gatehouse, remain and the site is a notable point of historical interest in the parish.

The parish is predominantly agricultural and residential, with a small, active community. Community facilities typically include a primary school and a parish church that serves local residents.
