Wauwatosa

Wauwatosa is a city located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. It is situated west of the city of Milwaukee, bordering it to the east. The name "Wauwatosa" is derived from a Potawatomi word meaning "firefly," a nod to the region's natural history. The city was settled in the 1830s and incorporated as a village in 1892, later becoming a city in 1897.

Historically, Wauwatosa was a significant industrial and agricultural center. It developed around the Menomonee River, which provided water power for early mills. Over time, manufacturing, particularly in industries like automotive and electrical equipment, became prominent. The city has a well-preserved historic business district, known as the Village of Wauwatosa, which features a collection of early 20th-century architecture and independent shops and restaurants.
