Wattay

Wattay International Airport, also known as Wattay, is the principal international airport serving Vientiane, the capital of Laos. It bears IATA code VTE and ICAO code VLVT.

Located about 4 kilometers east of central Vientiane, the airport functions as Laos' main international gateway and handles both international and domestic air traffic.

Originating as a military airfield, Wattay was developed to support civil aviation and was expanded in the late 20th century to accommodate growing travel demand. Today it handles the majority of Laos' international passenger traffic and serves as a hub for Lao Airlines along with several regional operators.

The facility comprises a passenger terminal that accommodates international and domestic services, with customs and immigration for international arrivals and ground transportation connections to the city.

A range of regional and international flights operates to destinations in Southeast Asia, subject to seasonal demand and regulatory approvals, with common connections to Bangkok, Hanoi, and other regional hubs.

Plans have been announced to upgrade and expand Wattay to handle increasing passenger numbers, improve passenger flow, and potentially extend runway capacity.
