Waterlevende

Waterlevende is a Dutch term used to describe organisms that live in water for significant parts of their life cycles. In English, the phrase is often rendered as water-dwelling or aquatic. It is not a formal taxonomic group, but a lifestyle descriptor that spans many kingdoms and phyla, including plants, animals, and algae.

Habitat and distribution: Waterlevende organisms inhabit a range of aquatic environments, from freshwater rivers, lakes, and wetlands to marine seas and oceans. Estuaries and brackish zones, where salinity varies, also host many waterlevende species. Some organisms are restricted to specific water types, while others migrate between habitats or spend only early life stages in water before returning to land or air.
