Wahrscheinlichkeitsmaßnahme is a fundamental concept in probability theory and measure theory. It provides a rigorous mathematical framework for defining probabilities of events. A Wahrscheinlichkeitsmaßnahme, often denoted by P, is a function that assigns a real number between 0 and 1 to every event in a sample space. The sample space, denoted by Ω, is the set of all possible outcomes of a random experiment.

For a function P to be a Wahrscheinlichkeitsmaßnahme, it must satisfy three axioms. First, the probability of any event must be non-negative: P(A) ≥ 0 for any event A. Second, the probability of the entire sample space must be 1: P(Ω) = 1. This signifies that an outcome is certain to occur. Third, for any countable collection of mutually exclusive events (events that cannot occur simultaneously), the probability of their union is the sum of their individual probabilities. This is known as the axiom of countable additivity: if A₁, A₂, A₃, ... are mutually exclusive events, then P(∪ᵢ Aᵢ) = Σᵢ P(Aᵢ).

These axioms ensure that probabilities behave in a consistent and logical manner. From these axioms, many other properties of probabilities can be derived, such as the probability of the empty set being 0, and the probability of the complement of an event.
