Wärmeflüsse

Wärmeflüsse, also known as heat flow, refers to the transfer of thermal energy from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature. This process is a fundamental concept in thermodynamics and occurs through three primary mechanisms: conduction, convection, and radiation.

Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact between particles. In solids, vibrations of atoms and molecules are passed along from one to another. In metals, free electrons also contribute significantly to heat conduction. This process is most efficient in materials with closely packed particles and readily available charge carriers.

Convection involves heat transfer through the movement of fluids, either liquids or gases. When a fluid is heated, it becomes less dense and rises, while cooler, denser fluid sinks. This creates a circulating current that distributes heat throughout the fluid. Convection can be natural, driven by density differences, or forced, by external means like fans or pumps.

Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves, such as infrared radiation. Unlike conduction and convection, radiation does not require a medium and can travel through a vacuum. All objects above absolute zero temperature emit thermal radiation. The intensity and wavelength of this radiation depend on the object's temperature.
