Võimsusspekter, also known as the power spectrum, is a mathematical tool used to describe how the power of a signal is distributed over different frequencies. It is particularly useful in signal processing, physics, and engineering to analyze the frequency content of various phenomena, such as sound waves, electrical signals, or vibrations. The power spectrum is typically obtained by taking the squared magnitude of the Fourier transform of a signal. The Fourier transform decomposes a signal into its constituent frequencies, and the power spectrum then quantifies the strength of each frequency component.

In essence, the võimsusspekter reveals which frequencies are dominant in a signal and how much power is associated with each. For example, a loud musical note would show a strong peak at the fundamental frequency of that note and its harmonics in its power spectrum. Conversely, a noisy signal might exhibit a more uniform distribution of power across a wide range of frequencies. Analyzing the power spectrum allows engineers to identify noise sources, design filters to remove unwanted frequencies, or understand the underlying mechanisms of a system. Different types of signals, like stationary and non-stationary signals, are analyzed using specific methods to derive their respective power spectra.
