Vírusfehérjék, often translated as viral proteins, are the building blocks of viruses and play a crucial role in their lifecycle. These proteins are encoded by the viral genome and are responsible for a variety of functions essential for viral replication, assembly, and interaction with host cells.

A significant portion of viral proteins are structural, meaning they form the physical components of the virus particle itself. These include proteins that make up the viral capsid, a protective outer shell that encloses the viral genetic material (DNA or RNA). Some viruses also possess an outer envelope, which is derived from the host cell membrane and is studded with viral envelope proteins. These proteins are vital for recognizing and attaching to specific host cell receptors, initiating the infection process.

Beyond structural roles, viral proteins also encompass non-structural proteins that are synthesized after the virus infects a host cell. These proteins are often enzymes that are necessary for replicating the viral genome, transcribing viral genes into messenger RNA, or modifying host cell machinery to favor viral production. Other non-structural proteins might be involved in evading the host's immune response or in facilitating the release of new viral particles from the infected cell. The diversity of viral proteins reflects the vast array of viruses and their varied strategies for survival and propagation.
