Växelströmsströmmen

Växelströmsströmmen, or alternating current (AC), is an electric current that periodically reverses direction. It is the form of electric power most commonly delivered to businesses and residences. AC is generated by electric generators at power plants and distributed across long distances using transformers and high-voltage transmission lines. The frequency of AC in most countries is 50 or 60 Hz, meaning the current changes direction 50 or 60 times per second.

The primary advantage of AC over direct current (DC) is its ability to be easily transformed to different voltages using transformers. This allows for efficient transmission of power over long distances, reducing energy losses compared to DC. AC is also safer for distribution to consumers, as it is easier to control and regulate.

AC was first developed by Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse in the late 19th century as a more efficient alternative to DC. Today, AC is the standard for power distribution in most countries, with DC being used primarily in specialized applications such as electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems.
