Väitelauseet
Väitelauseet, often translated as propositional statements or declarative sentences, are fundamental elements in logic and language. A väitelause is a sentence that asserts or denies something about a subject, and importantly, it can be definitively assigned a truth value of either true or false. This truth value is objective and independent of who is uttering the statement or when it is uttered. For instance, "The sky is blue" is a väitelause because it can be verified as true or false under normal circumstances. In contrast, questions, commands, or exclamations are not väitelauseet as they do not assert a proposition that can be evaluated for truth.
The study of väitelauseet is central to propositional logic, where they serve as the basic building blocks.
