Väggankare

Väggankare, often translated as wall anchor or wall plug, is a common device used to secure screws or bolts into a wall. They are typically made of plastic, metal, or sometimes wood. The primary function of a väggankare is to create a stable point of attachment in materials that are too soft or brittle to hold a screw directly, such as drywall, plaster, or hollow-core concrete blocks.

The most common type of väggankare is the plastic expansion anchor. When a screw is inserted into this type of anchor, the anchor expands behind the wall material, creating a wedge effect that grips the surrounding material. This expansion provides the holding power. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts or molly bolts, function differently. Toggle bolts have wings that open up behind the wall, distributing the load over a larger surface area. Molly bolts also expand but typically create a threaded receptacle on the back of the wall, allowing the bolt to be removed and reinserted.

The selection of the appropriate väggankare depends on the weight of the object to be hung, the type of wall material, and the specific application. Using the wrong type of anchor or an anchor that is not rated for the required load can lead to the object falling, potentially causing damage or injury. It is important to follow manufacturer instructions for installation and to ensure the anchor is properly seated within the wall before applying any load.
