Vollsortimenter are contrasted with Spezialisten (Fachhändler), which focus on a narrow product range or highly specialized expertise. Vollsortimenter are common in grocery chains, department stores, hypermarkets, home improvement centers, and other general retailers that seek to cover broad customer needs.

Advantages include higher footfall, improved convenience, greater cross-selling opportunities, and brand visibility.
