Vojinovi

Vojinovi is a small settlement located in the municipality of Gornji Milanovac in central Serbia. The village lies in the foothills of the Javor mountain range and is situated approximately 12 kilometres northeast of the municipal centre. Its geographical coordinates are 43°18′N latitude and 20°27′E longitude.

Historically, Vojinovi traces its origins to the late 17th century, when it was founded by families fleeing Ottoman rule in the region. The name “Vojinovi” derives from the Serbian word "vojin," meaning warrior, reflecting the martial background of its early inhabitants. During the 19th century, the village was a small agrarian community engaged primarily in crop cultivation and livestock rearing.

After the Second World War, Vojinovi became part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The post-war period saw the introduction of collective farming practices and the construction of basic infrastructure, including a primary school and a community hall. In the 1990s, the village experienced demographic decline, as younger residents migrated to urban centres for employment opportunities.

Today, Vojinovi has a population of around 350 residents, according to the latest census. Its economy remains largely based on agriculture, with emphasis on wheat, barley, and dairy farming. The village also hosts a small Orthodox church, dedicated to St. Nicholas, which serves as a cultural centre for local celebrations and rites.

Notable features of Vojinovi include its traditional stone houses and a nearby spring that supplies fresh water to surrounding communities. The surrounding landscape offers opportunities for hiking and nature study, with trails connecting to the Vojinovi forest.
