Vivitar

Vivitar is a brand name currently owned by Sakar International, Inc. The Vivitar brand was originally established in 1938 by the Ponder & Best company, primarily as a distributor of photographic equipment. Over the years, Vivitar became well-known for its range of camera lenses, flashes, and other photographic accessories, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s. They were recognized for offering quality products at competitive prices, often serving as an affordable alternative to the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) brands.

The company produced both its own branded lenses and accessories, as well as distributing products from other manufacturers. Vivitar lenses were particularly popular among amateur and professional photographers for their optical performance and value. The brand's product line expanded to include binoculars, telescopes, and other optical instruments. In its history, Vivitar also produced its own branded cameras, though they are most strongly associated with their accessory market.

Sakar International acquired the Vivitar brand in 2008. Under new ownership, Vivitar has continued to offer a wide array of consumer electronics, including digital cameras, camcorders, and camera accessories. The brand has adapted to the evolving technology landscape, now also offering products such as drones, Bluetooth speakers, and portable power banks, while maintaining a focus on accessible pricing for a broad consumer base.
