Visszavonhatóság

Visszavonhatóság is a Hungarian term describing the property of being withdrawable, cancelable, or revocable. The word is formed from visszavonni (to withdraw) and the suffix -hat/-het, which marks possibility. In everyday language and in legal discourse it denotes whether a statement, decision, or act can be withdrawn by its maker.

In a legal context, visszavonhatóság refers to the capacity to retract a declaration of will or a formal act before it takes effect or before the other party has relied on it. The concept is central to contract and civil law, where it helps determine whether an offer, consent, or other legal act can be cancelled, amended, or withdrawn. The precise rules—what can be withdrawn, when withdrawal is allowed, and by whom—depend on the jurisdiction and the specific act in question.

Common examples include the revocation of an offer to enter into a contract, the withdrawal of a consent or authorization, and the revocation of powers of attorney. In many systems, an offer remains revocable until it is accepted, whereas certain arrangements (such as option contracts or irrevocable commitments) may limit or eliminate visszavonhatóság. After a declaration has been acted upon or relied upon by others, withdrawal can become more restricted and may give rise to legal consequences if performed improperly.

Beyond law, visszavonhatóság is used more generally to describe any process, policy, or statement that can still be canceled or withdrawn. It stands in contrast to irrevocable acts, which are intended to be final.
