Visandids
The Visandids were a minor medieval dynasty that briefly ruled parts of the Balkans during the 12th century. Their origins remain somewhat obscure, but they are believed to have been of Slavic or mixed Slavic-Greek descent, possibly originating from the region of Macedonia or Thrace. The dynasty emerged in the aftermath of the decline of the Byzantine Empire’s control over the area, particularly following the Norman sack of Durazzo in 1185, which weakened Byzantine authority in the western Balkans.
