Viroconium
Viroconium, also known as Wroxeter, was a major city in Roman Britain. Its ruins are located near the village of Wroxeter, Shropshire, England. The city was established as a legionary fortress around AD 47, likely by the Ninth Legion. Following the conquest of Wales, it transitioned into a civilian settlement and grew into one of the largest urban centers in Roman Britain. At its peak, Viroconium is estimated to have housed a population of around 15,000 to 20,000 people.
The city boasted impressive public buildings, including a large forum and basilica, bathhouses, and a theater.
