Viriato

Viriato, also known as Viriathus, was a Roman name for a Cadeiro or Celtiberian chieftain who led a rebellion against the Roman Empire in the Lusitania province of Hispania. He is thought to have been born around 183 BC in the Territorium of Tartessos, which is now part of the Seville province in Spain.

Viriato's origins and early life are not well documented. However, it is believed that he was a member of the Cadeiro tribe, which inhabited the hill regions of Lusitania. With the expansion of the Roman Empire, many Cadeiro warriors were forced to fight in Roman legions, leading to growing resentment among the Cadeiro people.

In around 147 BC, Viriato possibly began his rebellion after failing to prevent his capture and subsequent execution of his father by Roman forces. Gathering a small group of followers, Viriato initiated guerrilla warfare against Roman column and skirmished with them, slowly spreading the rebellion throughout the province.

Over the years of campaigns, Viriato proved himself to be an effective leader, adapting tactics and unleashing various brutal treatments against his victims such as tricart sentry and native from that society beheading. However, his campaign ended abruptly when Viriato was assassinated in 139 BC, during a meeting of his council of generals in the Castulo region.
