Vetnisperoxíð, also known as hydrogen peroxide, is a chemical compound with the formula H2O2. It is a pale blue liquid that is slightly more viscous than water. Pure hydrogen peroxide is unstable and can decompose explosively when heated or contaminated. It is typically sold in aqueous solutions of varying concentrations.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent and is used in various applications. In medicine, it is commonly employed as an antiseptic and disinfectant due to its ability to kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It can be found in first-aid kits for cleaning minor wounds. The chemical decomposition of hydrogen peroxide yields water and oxygen gas: 2 H2O2 → 2 H2O + O2. This reaction can be accelerated by catalysts such as manganese dioxide or platinum. Due to its oxidizing properties and potential for decomposition, hydrogen peroxide should be handled with care and stored in appropriate containers, typically made of glass or certain plastics, away from heat and direct sunlight. Concentrations above 8% are considered hazardous and require specific safety precautions.
