Verwall

Verwall refers to a mountain range in the Central Eastern Alps, situated in Austria. It is part of the larger Limestone Alps, specifically the Northern Limestone Alps. The Verwall Alps are bordered by the Silvretta Alps to the west and the Lechtal Alps to the east. The highest peak in the Verwall range is the Hoher Riffler, which stands at 3,168 meters (10,394 feet). The region is known for its rugged terrain, characterized by steep slopes, alpine meadows, and glacial cirques.

The Verwall is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. Numerous marked trails traverse the landscape, offering various levels of difficulty. The mountains are also a significant area for ski touring in the winter months. Several mountain huts are scattered throughout the range, providing accommodation and sustenance for visitors. These huts often serve as starting points for ascents of the prominent peaks or for exploring the surrounding valleys.

Geologically, the Verwall Alps are primarily composed of metamorphic rocks, including crystalline schists and gneisses, which distinguish them from the surrounding limestone formations.
