Vertikální

Vertikální is a Czech adjective describing orientation or position aligned with the vertical direction, from top to bottom and perpendicular to the horizon. It contrasts with horizontální. The term is used across science, engineering, design, and everyday language to indicate anything that runs along gravity's up-down axis or is arranged in a portrait-like orientation. The noun form vertikála is used in some contexts to refer to a vertical line or the vertical axis.

In geometry and mathematics, vertical denotes directions parallel to the vertical axis; a vertical line does not intersect a horizontal line except at a right angle. In three-dimensional space, the vertical axis is often distinguished from horizontal axes.

In architecture, construction, and surveying, vertikální references describe measurements or features aligned with gravity. In design and media, vertikální zarovnání denotes elements stacked along a column, and vertikální formát or portrait orientation is used for screens and prints, particularly on mobile devices.

In science and meteorology, vertical profiles show data as a function of altitude, and vertical motion refers to movement along the up-down axis. The term is standard in Czech and widely used in technical fields to describe phenomena, formats, and structures oriented along the vertical direction.
