Veronderst

Veronderst is a term used in some Dutch linguistic descriptions to refer to the stem of the verb veronderstellen (to suppose, assume). It is not an independent word in standard Dutch and does not appear in ordinary dictionaries; rather, it functions as a label in grammar discussions to describe how the verb inflects.

In meaning, veronderstellen means to suppose or assume. The full verb appears in dictionaries as veronderstellen, but when grammarians discuss its morphology they may refer to the stem veronderst, or to the stem portion veronderstel- that combines with personal endings to form finite verb forms.
