Vent

Vent is a term used for an opening or conduit that allows air, gas, or vapor to escape from or enter a confined space. It can also refer to the act of expressing emotions or grievances, often to relieve tension.

In building and plumbing systems, a vent refers to pipes or stacks that connect the drainage system to the outdoors. The primary purpose is to equalize pressure within drain lines and to prevent sewer gases from backing up into living spaces. Vent pipes typically run up through walls or ceilings and extend above the roof to the outside air. Proper venting helps keep traps from being siphoned dry, maintains drainage efficiency, and supports safe operation of the plumbing system.
