Veluwezoom

Veluwezoom is a national park located in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. It is one of the largest national parks in the country and is characterized by its diverse natural landscapes, including forests, heathlands, and sand drifts. The park is situated on the eastern edge of the larger Veluwe massif, from which it derives its name.

The topography of Veluwezoom is notable for its undulating terrain, a result of glacial activity during the Pleistocene epoch. This creates significant elevation differences within the park, offering scenic viewpoints. The area is home to a variety of flora and fauna, with deciduous and coniferous forests dominating the landscape. These woodlands provide habitat for red deer, wild boar, and various bird species. The heathlands, particularly striking in late summer when they are in bloom, are also an important ecological feature.

Veluwezoom is a popular destination for outdoor recreation. Visitors can engage in hiking, cycling, and horseback riding along a network of well-maintained trails. The park is accessible throughout the year, with different seasons offering distinct visual experiences, from the spring blossoms to the autumn colors. Several visitor centers and information points are located within or near the park, providing maps, information about the local ecosystem, and details on walking and cycling routes. The park is managed by the Dutch Forestry Commission (Staatsbosbeheer).
