Vegetatívne

Vegetatívne is an adjective and adverb in Slovak describing processes, systems, or characteristics related to the vegetative or autonomic aspects of living organisms. It is used in biology, botany, and medicine to distinguish non-reproductive or involuntary functions from somatic or reproductive ones.

In botany, vegetatívne rozmnožovanie refers to non-sexual reproduction through vegetative parts such as stems, roots, leaves, or specialized structures (cuttings, tubers, runners). It yields genetically identical offspring and contrasts with sexuálne rozmnožovanie (sexual reproduction).

In physiology and medicine, vegetatívny nervový systém, also called the autonomic nervous system, governs involuntary functions including heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, and respiration. Vegetatívne funkcie are regulated automatically, often through sympathetic and parasympathetic pathways, and can be altered in disease states such as the vegetatívny stav (persistent vegetative state).

The term is common in Slovak and Czech, with cognates in other Slavic languages such as vegetativní. It should not be confused with vegetative in unrelated contexts and is sometimes contrasted with somatické or sexuálne terms.

Overall, vegetatívne indicates a distinction between plant- or organism-level growth and involuntary regulation, as opposed to somatické (somatic) or sexuálne (sexual) aspects.
