Vedelikpõletike

Vedelikpõletike, also known as liquid fires, are a type of incendiary weapon that utilizes a combustible liquid as its primary fuel. These weapons work by igniting and projecting a stream or spray of flammable liquid, creating a controlled or uncontrolled fire. The effectiveness of vedelikpõletike often depends on the properties of the liquid used, such as its flashpoint, viscosity, and vapor pressure.

Historically, various forms of liquid fire have been employed in warfare. Ancient examples include the use of petroleum-based substances. Modern vedelikpõletike, commonly referred to as flamethrowers, typically use thickened fuels like napalm or polyurethane foam mixed with gasoline. This thickening agent increases the fuel's adherence to targets and extends its burning time, making it more destructive.

The operation of a vedelikpõletike involves a pressurized system to expel the liquid fuel. This can be achieved through compressed gas or by pumping mechanisms. Once expelled, the liquid is ignited, either at the nozzle or shortly after leaving it, creating a stream of flame. The range and intensity of the fire are influenced by the design of the weapon and the propellant used.

Vedelikpõletike are designed to inflict severe burns and cause widespread destruction. Their use has been controversial due to the horrific injuries they can inflict and their potential for indiscriminate damage. International conventions and laws of war address the use of incendiary weapons, aiming to limit their employment and protect civilians.
