Vankomysin
Vankomysin is a glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a common cause of difficult-to-treat infections. Vankomysin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to cell death. It is typically administered intravenously, although oral formulations are available for specific intestinal infections.
The discovery of vankomysin in the 1950s marked a significant advancement in the fight against antibiotic-resistant
Vankomysin is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause side effects. The most common adverse reactions include
