Vanemlusõiguste

Vanemlusõigused, in Estonian, refers to parental rights. These are a set of legal rights and responsibilities that parents have towards their minor children. In Estonia, these rights are primarily governed by the Family Law Act.

Vanemlusõigused encompass several key areas, including the right to raise and educate the child, the right to decide on the child's name, religion, and upbringing, and the right to represent the child in legal and other matters. Parents are also responsible for the child's care, support, and protection.

When parents are married, they generally share these rights equally. In cases of separation or divorce, the court will determine how these rights will be exercised, often involving custody arrangements and visitation schedules. The primary consideration in all decisions concerning vanemlusõigused is the best interests of the child.

If parents are unable to agree on matters concerning their children, or if there are concerns about a child's welfare, a court may intervene. This can lead to changes in parental rights, including limitations or even deprivation of parental rights in severe cases. The Estonian legal system emphasizes the importance of both parents' involvement in a child's life whenever it is deemed beneficial for the child.
