Valonabsorptio
Valonabsorptio, also known as light absorption, is a fundamental physical process where electromagnetic radiation, specifically light, is taken up by a substance. This absorption occurs when the energy of the photons in the light matches the energy difference between electron energy levels within the atoms or molecules of the substance. Upon absorbing a photon, an electron transitions from a lower energy state to a higher, excited state. The absorbed energy is then typically dissipated through various mechanisms, such as re-emission of light at a different wavelength (fluorescence or phosphorescence), conversion into heat, or driving chemical reactions.
The extent and specific wavelengths of light absorbed by a material are characteristic of its chemical composition
