Valitustuomioilla

Valitustuomioilla is a Finnish legal institution that plays a significant role in the country's judicial system. The term literally translates to "courts of appeal" in English. At the outset, Valitustuomioilla refers to two types of courts: the Supreme Court of Finland and the Courts of Appeal.

The Supreme Court is the highest court in Finland, and its primary function is to provide a final verdict on appeals made against decisions rendered by the Courts of Appeal. The Court's decisions are binding and represent the culmination of a case in the Finnish court system. The Court of Appeals, on the other hand, examines cases that have been appealed from the district courts and makes decisions on these matters.

The structure of Valitustuomioilla is designed to ensure the impartiality and independence of the judiciary. All members of the Courts of Appeal are appointed by the President of Finland on the basis of a proposal by the Government. Similarly, judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President for the same reason. In addition, the Judges' Law provides detailed provisions regarding the selection process, duration of office, and removal of judges from office.

A primary function of Valitustuomioilla is to provide reviews of the decisions made by lower courts, as well as a platform for individuals and entities to seek a higher court's reversal of a lower court's decision.
