Valerianic

Valerianic refers to a chemical structure derived from valeric acid, also known as pentanoic acid. Valeric acid is a saturated fatty acid with the chemical formula CH3(CH2)3COOH. The valerianic group is typically a substituent where the carboxyl group of valeric acid has been modified or is part of a larger molecule.

In organic chemistry, the term "valerianate" or "valerate" is often used to describe salts or esters of valeric acid. For example, ethyl valerianate is an ester formed from ethanol and valeric acid, possessing a fruity aroma. Derivatives of valeric acid, including those containing the valerianic moiety, are found in various natural products and are synthesized for diverse applications.
