VORsignalen

VORsignalen, or VHF Omnidirectional Range signals, are a type of radio navigation aid used in aviation. They provide pilots with a bearing to a specific point, known as the VOR station, which is typically located at an airport or other navigational aid facility. VORsignalen operate in the VHF (Very High Frequency) band and transmit a signal that can be received by aircraft equipped with a VOR receiver.

The VOR system consists of two main components: the VOR station and the VOR receiver. The VOR station transmits a signal that contains information about the station's location and the bearing to it. The VOR receiver in the aircraft processes this signal and provides the pilot with a bearing to the VOR station, typically displayed on a navigation instrument such as an HSI (Horizontal Situation Indicator) or a CDI (Course Deviation Indicator).

VORsignalen are widely used in aviation for en route navigation, approach procedures, and non-precision approaches. They provide pilots with a reliable and accurate means of navigation, especially in areas where other navigation aids may not be available. However, VORsignalen are subject to certain limitations, such as line-of-sight requirements and the potential for signal interference, which pilots must be aware of when using the system.

In recent years, the use of VORsignalen has declined in favor of more modern navigation systems, such as GPS (Global Positioning System) and DME (Distance Measuring Equipment). However, VORsignalen remain an important part of the aviation navigation infrastructure and continue to be used in many parts of the world.
