V2receptorit refers to the vasopressin V2 receptor, a type of G protein-coupled receptor found primarily in the kidneys. This receptor plays a critical role in regulating water balance and blood pressure within the body. Vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), binds to the V2 receptor to promote water reabsorption in the collecting ducts of the kidneys, thereby concentrating urine and conserving water.

The V2 receptor is encoded by the *AVPR2* gene located on the X chromosome, which explains why X-linked recessive disorders affecting this receptor primarily impact males. Mutations in this gene can lead to conditions such as nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, a disorder characterized by excessive thirst and dilute urine due to impaired water reabsorption.

In clinical settings, V2 receptor agonists and antagonists are used therapeutically. For example, desmopressin (DDAVP) is a synthetic V2 receptor agonist prescribed to manage conditions like central diabetes insipidus, while tolvaptan is a V2 receptor antagonist used to treat conditions such as syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) or hyponatremia.
