Võimaskomplekti, often translated as "power set" in English, refers to a fundamental concept in set theory. It is the collection of all possible subsets of a given set. For any set A, its power set, denoted as P(A) or 2^A, includes the empty set (a set with no elements) and the set A itself.

Consider a simple set A = {a, b}. The subsets of A are: the empty set {}, the set containing only 'a' ({a}), the set containing only 'b' ({b}), and the set A itself ({a, b}). Therefore, the power set of A, P(A), is {{}, {a}, {b}, {a, b}}.

The number of elements in the power set of a set with n elements is always 2^n. This is because for each element in the original set, there are two possibilities: either it is included in a subset or it is not. Multiplying these possibilities for all n elements gives 2 * 2 * ... * 2 (n times), which equals 2^n.

The concept of power sets is crucial in various areas of mathematics, including combinatorics, abstract algebra, and theoretical computer science. It is used to understand the structure of sets and to define more complex mathematical objects. For instance, in topology, a topology on a set X is a collection of subsets of X that satisfy certain axioms, and this collection forms a subset of the power set of X.
