Värvustest, or color tests, are assessments designed to evaluate an individual's ability to perceive and differentiate colors. These tests are crucial in various fields, including ophthalmology, where they help diagnose color vision deficiencies, often referred to as color blindness.

The most common type of color test is the Ishihara test, which consists of a series of colored plates. Each plate contains a pattern of dots of varying colors and sizes. For individuals with normal color vision, a specific number or shape will be visible within the pattern. However, those with color vision deficiencies may see a different number or shape, or no discernible pattern at all.

Other color tests exist, such as the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-hue test, which is more detailed and can identify specific types and degrees of color vision impairment. This test involves arranging a set of colored caps in a specific color order, and errors in arrangement reveal deficits in color perception.

Color tests are not only used for medical diagnosis. They are also employed in professions where accurate color discrimination is essential, such as in graphic design, textile manufacturing, and aviation. Understanding and assessing color perception ensures safety and quality in these areas. The results of color tests can guide individuals in career choices and inform the need for assistive tools or strategies.
