Värvispektriga

Värvispektriga refers to the visual spectrum of light, the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to the human eye. This spectrum is a continuous range of colors, ordered by their wavelength. When white light, such as sunlight, passes through a prism or is dispersed by water droplets in the atmosphere (creating a rainbow), it separates into its constituent colors.

The order of colors in the visible spectrum, from longest wavelength to shortest, is commonly remembered by the acronym ROYGBIV: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet. Red has the longest wavelength and lowest frequency, while violet has the shortest wavelength and highest frequency. Each color corresponds to a specific range of wavelengths. For instance, red light has wavelengths roughly between 620 and 750 nanometers, while violet light has wavelengths between 380 and 450 nanometers.

Beyond the visible spectrum lie other forms of electromagnetic radiation. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has shorter wavelengths than violet, and infrared (IR) radiation has longer wavelengths than red. While humans cannot see these regions, they have various effects and applications, such as UV light being used for sterilization and IR light for heat sensing. The concept of the värvispektriga is fundamental to understanding color perception, optics, and the behavior of light.
