Väriominaisuuksilla, or color properties, refers to the various attributes that describe and define the appearance of a color. These properties are fundamental in fields such as art, design, photography, and computer graphics, enabling consistent and accurate representation of color. The most common color properties include hue, saturation, and lightness or value.

Hue refers to the pure color itself, such as red, green, or blue. It's what we typically mean when we name a color. Saturation, also known as chroma, describes the intensity or purity of the hue. A highly saturated color is vivid and rich, while a desaturated color appears duller or closer to gray. Lightness, or value, indicates how light or dark a color is. A light color has a high lightness value, approaching white, while a dark color has a low lightness value, approaching black.

Different color models utilize these properties to define and manipulate colors. For example, the HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) color model directly uses these three attributes. In contrast, the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) model defines colors by the intensity of red, green, and blue light components, from which hue, saturation, and lightness can be derived. Understanding color properties allows for precise color selection, mixing, and communication, ensuring that colors are perceived and reproduced as intended across various mediums and devices.
