Väljalaskekäigu

Väljalaskekäigu refers to the exhaust stroke in an internal combustion engine. This is one of the four key phases of the Otto cycle or Diesel cycle, which describes the process of converting chemical energy into mechanical energy. The exhaust stroke follows the power stroke, where the combustion of fuel and air pushes the piston down.

During the väljalaskekäigu, the exhaust valve opens, and the piston moves upwards within the cylinder. This upward motion forces the spent combustion gases, or exhaust, out of the cylinder and into the exhaust system. The exhaust system typically includes manifold, catalytic converter, muffler, and tailpipe, which guide the gases away from the engine and reduce noise and harmful emissions. The primary goal of the exhaust stroke is to clear the cylinder of residual gases to make room for a fresh charge of fuel and air for the next cycle. Effective expulsion of exhaust gases is crucial for engine efficiency and performance. Incomplete expulsion can lead to reduced power output and increased fuel consumption. The timing and duration of the exhaust valve opening are precisely controlled by the engine's camshaft.
