Väetamisviisid, also known as fertilization methods, refer to the various techniques used to supply plants with essential nutrients that are not sufficiently available in the soil. The primary goal of these methods is to enhance plant growth, improve crop yields, and maintain soil fertility. Fertilization can be categorized based on the type of fertilizer used, the timing of application, and the method of delivery.

Commonly, fertilizers are divided into organic and mineral types. Organic fertilizers, such as compost, manure, and green manure, improve soil structure and provide nutrients slowly over time. Mineral fertilizers, also known as synthetic or chemical fertilizers, are manufactured products containing specific nutrient compounds like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in readily available forms.

Application methods can be broadly classified into broadcasting, banding, foliar application, and fertigation. Broadcasting involves spreading fertilizer evenly over the entire soil surface. Banding places fertilizer in narrow strips near the plant rows, allowing for more efficient nutrient uptake. Foliar application involves spraying nutrient solutions directly onto plant leaves, providing a rapid but temporary boost. Fertigation combines irrigation and fertilization, delivering dissolved fertilizers through the irrigation system.

The timing of fertilization is crucial for optimal plant response. Nutrients should be applied when plants are most in need, considering their growth stages and specific requirements. Over-fertilization can lead to environmental problems such as water pollution, while under-fertilization can result in nutrient deficiencies and reduced productivity. Therefore, choosing the appropriate fertilization method and timing is essential for sustainable agriculture and horticulture.
