Utsläppsfria

Utsläppsfria is a Swedish term used to describe technologies, products or practices that do not emit pollutants during their operation. It denotes an absence of emissions of substances such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates while the device or process is in use. The expression is common in environmental policy, planning documents and public discourse, and is often used in marketing to signal reduced climate and air-pollution impact. It is important to note that utsläppsfria typically refers to operational emissions; life-cycle emissions from production, transport, and disposal may still occur.

Applications include transportation (electric vehicles, rail, trams), heating and energy supply (electric heat pumps, district heating from renewable sources, solar and wind power), and certain industrial processes that run on electricity or zero-emission fuels. Hydrogen vehicles, when the hydrogen is produced without fossil fuels, can also be described as utsläppsfria in operation. The term is not a formal regulatory category in most countries, and its precise meaning can vary by context and market.

In Sweden and the broader EU, utsläppsfria concepts are part of decarbonization strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.
