Utomjordiska

Utomjordiska is a Swedish term used to describe anything originating outside Earth, most commonly extraterrestrial life or beings. The word is formed from utom- (outside) and jordisk (earthly). In practice, utomjordiska can function as both an adjective and, less often, as a substantivial reference to extraterrestrial beings, for example utomjordiska varelser (extraterrestrial beings) or utomjordiskt liv (extraterrestrial life). The term is widely used in science fiction, popular science, and debates about unidentified phenomena.

In scientific contexts, the preferred terms are extraterrestrial and extraterrestrial life. Swedish-language science communication often translates or adapts the concept as liv utanför jorden or utomjordiskt liv.
