Uronihaposta

Uronihaposta is a genus of extinct millipedes found in what is now Queensland, Australia. The name "uronihaposta" comes from the Pitjantjatjara language, meaning "into the boulder" or "under the rock". This refers to the location of the fossils, which were discovered in a limestone outcrop in the northwest part of the state.

Uronihaposta fossils are known from the Navarra formation, a geological formation of Early Eocene age. The fossils date back approximately 50 million years. They are characterized by their large size, with some individuals reaching lengths of up to 30 centimeters.

The Uronihaposta genus is distinct due to the shape and structure of its body. The legs are short and wide, a characteristic common to many extinct millipede genera. The first body ring bears a pair of very large, monoconic setae, which are likely clasping setae that the animal used to move large objects.

Little is known about the life habits of the Uronihaposta. However, it is assumed to have been a subterranean or horizontally oriented species, given the environment in which it lived. The genus provides valuable information about the evolution of millipedes during the Paleogene period.

Fossil specimens of Uronihaposta are rare, but those found have contributed significantly to our understanding of the early evolution of these arthropods.
